Marking a printed name and writing in another is an overvote: neither vote counts. Leave the bubbles for pre-printed candidates blank.

All valid write-ins are tabulated and certified by elections officials and added to the official precinct returns

Handwrite only — no stickers, stamps, or labels.
By California law, anything pre-printed or adhesive on the write-in line is not counted.

If there's a bubble next to the write-in line, fill the bubble
This is the one that trips people up. Writing the name alone isn't enough: you must fill the bubble and write the name.
